Les Aiglons Deliver Lasting Tribute to Hometown Hero Eric Roy
As OGC Nice returned to pre-season training on Wednesday for routine physical and medical testing, the club hierarchy confirmed a poignant memorial for a true club icon. The training center media room will now permanently bear the name of Eric Roy, who tragically passed away on June 17 at the age of 58 after a long illness.
The proud Nice native enjoyed a deeply intertwined relationship with Les Aiglons, featuring across two separate playing stints from 1988 to 1992 and 2002 to 2004. Roy later stepped into the dugout to manage the senior squad between 2010 and 2011, establishing himself as a foundational figure in the club's modern Ligue 1 history.

Known affectionately for his tactical acumen and trademark cap, Roy shared a remarkably close working relationship with former club president Maurice Cohen. Nice officials previously paid tribute to Roy during defender Dante's recent departure ceremony, but felt a permanent structural dedication at the training ground was a vital mark of respect.
Further stadium tributes are currently being planned by the club to allow the Allianz Riviera faithful to say a final farewell to their beloved son. Due to an opening-day stadium ban, the public celebration is expected during Nice's second home fixture of the campaign against Le Mans in early September.
