Local Government Challenges 552 Million Euro Transport Infrastructure Cost Estimates

Following the inaugural steering committee meeting for the Parc des Princes on June 25, the town of Poissy remains firmly in the running. Alongside Massy, Poissy has been shortlisted by the French champions as a potential destination if they decide to leave their historic capital home. However, the town's bid recently faced heavy scrutiny regarding the public transport infrastructure costs required to support a modern arena.

In response to the critics, Yvelines departmental council president Pierre Bedier sent an official two-page letter to the steering committee defending the bid. Bedier emphasized that proposed road adjustments would guarantee smooth traffic flow toward the future stadium without congesting downtown Poissy. He assured club officials that these road developments are straightforward and fully aligned with the rapid timeline desired by the Ligue 1 champions.

The core dispute centers on public transport estimates from Ile-de-France-Mobilites, which projected infrastructure costs at 552 million euros to connect the RER A, RER E, and Tram T13 lines. Bedier challenged these figures, stating alternative technical solutions exist to meet the club's demand of transporting 53 percent of matchday fans per hour. He firmly requested that these cost-effective alternatives be re-examined during upcoming working sessions.

The stadium dispute comes at a crucial time as Paris Saint-Germain aims to finalize their definitive arena location by autumn. While Poissy, which already hosts the club's state-of-the-art training center, continues to push its case, PSG executives have also renewed discussions with the City of Paris and its new mayor, Emmanuel Gregoire, leaving all strategic options open for the club's long-term infrastructure future.
