Defender Heads Back to England After Coupe de France Triumph

The academy graduate returned to his boyhood club during the winter transfer window but his temporary stint concludes without a permanent purchase option. Masuaku now heads back to Sunderland where he remains under contract ahead of the upcoming English campaign.

The DR Congo international found playing time limited in France, registering just four Ligue 1 appearances alongside two Coupe de France outings. His brief spell was also marred by a unique red card received for dissent while warming up on the touchline against Lyon.

Despite limited minutes, the French club expressed gratitude via social media, thanking the defender for his contributions to their successful UEFA Champions League qualification and Coupe de France victory before wishing him the best for his future career.

The two clubs will reunite quickly as Lens are scheduled to host Sunderland at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on August 8 for the Trophee 1906, while Masuaku focuses on international duty at the ongoing World Cup.
